So lets just say you think you may have a problem, what comes next, well you will have to talk about it at some point to someone, which I know will put many people off, but you must talk about it, its so important!.

It really isn't that bad once you get going on the subject, its just the initial sentence:

"Well doctor, I'm having a bit of trouble with my bottom!"

Beleive me when I say he/she will not laugh, but will start asking questions to try and determine the root of the problem.

Granted, I never had that conversation with a gp, as I went straight in for an operation as it had been undetected, but I did have a rectal examination in front of , how many was it now, ah yes 12 people, so I have been a tad more embarrassed, just a bit!.

Once thats out of the way, beleive me its all plain sailing! How could it get any worse!.

I used to be terribly prudish about everything, but half of the county knows about my bowels now, and after this book, if it sells well, half of the country, and I really do not get embarrased at all, as it is a very important thing to discuss, again I have been on the wrong end of bowel cancer, so urge anyone and everyone to discuss any problems no matter how small, as they can often be resolved fairly simply.

So stiff upper lip, take a deep breath and talk about it, for if everyone did, it wouldn't be so taboo.

I will be accompanying Lynn Faulds - Wood on the Radio during Faster Diagnosis week, on the 22nd (thurs) so with any luck, if the stations are interested you will be able to hear me talk the talk about this disease, which will hopefully raise awareness. Faster diagnosis is a must and something Lynn has been campaigning for for almost 15 years, I was amazed at how many peoples lives bowel cancer has affected after speaking with Lynn, even her own, it really needs to be addressed.

FASTER DIAGNOSIS WEEK IS THE WEEK OF 19TH JUNE 2006
